Department of Orthopedics in the Seoul Hospital consists of 8 full-time faculty members, 1 clinical professor, 3 fellows, residents, and in Guri, 6 full-time faculty members, 2 fellows and residents. College of Medicine in Hanyang University opened in January 1968. In December 1969, the affiliated hospital was approved to be established, and on May 3, 1972, Hanyang University Hospital was opened and the Department of Orthopedics was established. Professor Kwanghwe Kim, who was a professor at Yonsei University School of Medicine, was appointed to be the department’s first Head Professor, and opened the department with two residents including full-time lecturer Seunghwan Oh. On October 1, Professor Seongjoon Kim, an assistant professor at Ehwa University School of Medicine, took office as the associate professor. On March 1, 1973, with the increase in the number of residents to 4, the department finally formed its well-organized appearance as the Department of Orthopedics of the University hospital resulting in 9 members in total (4 residents from first to four years and 5 professors). In 1995, Department of Orthopedics was opened in Guri Hospital as well, leading to present. The department has made remarkable progress in the clinical and academic fields through detailed specialty area consultation. Quality education for the residents is provided through conferences conducted every morning, and as a result, a number of residents were evaluated to be the top in the national residents evaluation. Excellent students with quality education and remarkable grades are applying to be fellows every year, which greatly contributes to the development of the department.
