Established in July 1969, Department of Preventive Medicine aims to improve public health by fostering future researchers and conducting researches about disease prevention and control, ranging from epidemiology and statistics, to environmental medicine and to health care policy. Starting epidemiology of type B hepatitis in Jangsu-gun, North Jeolla Province from 1985, the Department kept conducting epidemiology of infectious diseases and chronic diseases. Hanyang Medical School established relation of cooperation with Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do laying foundations for community-based studies and health service. Also seniors of medicine major can participate in clinical practice in local society. With establishment of Research Institute for Local Health and Social Affairs(1998) which has changed its name to Research Institute of Health and Society in 2013 and Research Institute for Healthcare(2003), the Department provides foundations to conduct various collaborative studies of local community.
