Department of Dentistry was established in 1972 with the opening of the hospital affiliated with Hanyang University Medical School. Professor Kwanghee Yoo was appointed as the first Head Professor of the department. The department has produced 57 masters and 20 Ph.D graduates so far. Currently, 5 full-time faculty members and 2 honorary professors are in position. Graduate school consists of MS-PhD programs for residents of Dentistry, and its education and research area includes detailed divisions of oral and maxillofacial surgery, dental prosthesis, orthodontics, conservative dentistry, periodontics. Oral and maxillofacial surgery focuses on accurately diagnosing the infection, damage, malformation, tumors, and also focuses on its aesthetic restoration and functional recuperation through surgical treatments. Division of dental prosthesis pursues aesthetical restoration and functional recuperation through dental braces for the defected teeth and its surrounding tissues. Division of orthodontics is responsible for preventing and treating malfunction of craniofacial growth, malocclusion. Division of periodontics conducts research on the surrounding tissues which support teeth, and also studies the cause, progress, prevention, diagnosis and treatment for periodontal disease. Division of conservative dentistry focuses on recuperating the aesthetical aspect of teeth by preventing, diagnosing, and treating of illnesses that occur on the hard tissues of teeth, pulp, and periapical tissues.
